OK, so you may have heard of the MTHFR gene . There are numerous research done exposing this gene as the hidden cause of most health concerns that exist today. The Abbreviation of its name – Methyl Tetrahydrofolate Reductase – has given it some interesting interpretations. Like being referred to as the Monday, Thursday, Friday gene or the MotherF**ker gene. Now, if you have had any of the following diseases or medical conditions listed below or know someone who has, then this gene could very well be the culprit to your misery and that is why theMotherF**ker monoker is very fitting.

Why is this gene so powerful?
This gene is responsible for ensuring over 200 reactions in the body occur. It does this by activating:
- Vitamin B12 and
- Folate (NOT Folic Acid)
It activates these nutrients by adding a methyl group. This methyl then goes on help build important substances like DNA and neurotransmitters (dopamine – Serotonin) or remove the yucky stuff from our body.
When there is a defect in the gene our bodies don’t function as well and the result is a myriad of health concerns.
Can you test if you have this defect?
Yes. There are several genetic labs available to check your unique genetic makeup not just MTHFR gene. The lab I use is a Canadian company called Younique Genomics. Consult your healthcare provider if you are interested in knowing how your genes can affect your health.
